Rani Mangammal Mahal (Trichy Museum) – Architectural LiDAR Study Models

A pair of 3D spatial models of Rani Mangammal Mahal in Trichy, additive manufactured from LiDAR scan data by CARE School of Architecture students to support adaptive reuse design studios and heritage documentation.

Monochrome white 3D printed architectural models of Rani Mangammal Mahal—one showing a complete multi-part assembly with exposed interior arcades and another showing a gift section model on an inscribed base.

This physical model collection documents the historic Rani Mangammal Mahal (Government Museum, Trichy), created as part of an academic design studio by students at CARE School of Architecture under expert mentorship. Utilizing precision LiDAR scanning technology, the students digitally mapped the structure to analyze its spatial layout, structural condition, and adaptive reuse possibilities. The collection features two physical outputs: a large, multi-piece unpainted 3D assembly showcasing intricate interior arcades, multi-story courtyards, and central vaulted domes; and a compact sectional souvenir model presented to the District Collector of Trichy in appreciation for research access. Additionally, preliminary photogrammetric scans of museum sculptures were conducted as an introductory learning exercise, laying the foundation for future heritage digitisation projects.
