Kinetic Facade System – Origami Flasher Dynamic Shading
Working prototype of a motorized, origami-inspired dynamic facade module designed for responsive solar control and building skin automation.

Designed as part of an architectural studio project, this dynamic facade unit explores responsive building skins through origami geometry. The design features a motorized origami flasher mechanism that expands and contracts to modulate daylight entrance and natural ventilation. Conceptually tied to solar simulation data (similar to Grasshopper dynamic shading algorithms), individual facade panels dynamically alter their aperture based on solar intensity and sun position throughout the day. Our team conceptualized the kinetic mechanism, constructed the physical geometry, built the structural test frame, and integrated the motor electronics to demonstrate a fully functional dynamic prototype.
